Fiber optics

Fiber for the backbone. Copper for the edge.

Single-mode and multimode fiber for backbones, risers, data rooms, and building-to-building links. Every strand terminated, tested, and documented.

Copper vs fiber

Most networks need both.

Fiber: distance and bandwidth between floors, buildings, and data rooms. Copper: data and PoE to devices. Both terminated and tested.

  • Single-mode and multimode fiber installation
  • Indoor, riser, and building-to-building runs
  • Fiber enclosures, patch panels, and connectors
  • Testing with results documented for every strand

CopperFiber
Typical use

Horizontal runs to desks, APs, cameras, readers

Backbones, risers, data rooms, between buildings

Distance

Up to 100 m per channel

Hundreds of meters to kilometers, depending on type

Power

Can deliver PoE to devices

Data only; power is provided separately

Interference

Can be affected by EMI

Immune to electrical interference

Best for

Cost-effective connections to endpoints

High bandwidth and future growth

Where fiber fits

Common fiber projects.

Typical fiber runs.

Backbone

MDF to IDF

Fiber between the main data room and each telecom closet or floor.

Campus

Building to building

Links between buildings where copper distance limits don't work.

Data rooms

Switch to switch

High-bandwidth connections inside racks and between cabinets.

FAQ

Fiber questions.

Send distances and devices; we recommend the fiber type.

Single-mode or multimode?

Multimode: shorter in-building runs such as risers and data rooms. Single-mode: longer distances and building-to-building links. Choice depends on distance and the equipment on each end.

Do you terminate and test the fiber?

Yes. We install enclosures and connectors and test every strand, with results documented at close-out.

Do you also install the copper?

Yes. Cat6 and Cat6A are our primary copper cabling. See Structured Cabling.

Next step

Need fiber between rooms, floors, or buildings?

Send endpoints and distances. We send a fiber scope.
